My creative path has been connected with visual art from the beginning. In 1995, I graduated—with honors—in animated film from the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań.
My graduation project was a music video for the song “Oddalenie” by Kazik Staszewski. The film received the Award for Best Editing at the Cannes Television Festival, the Grand Prix of the National Festival of Auteur Animated Films (OFAFA), and a Grand Prix nomination at the Yach Film Festival.
It was precisely in the music video that the areas that remain particularly close to me to this day came together: music, rhythm, visual storytelling, animation, and editing. I like it when a film does not merely illustrate sound, but starts a dialogue with it—adding meanings, changing the perspective, and creating a separate world.
I do not limit myself to a single technique or a single formula. Every project requires a different way of looking. Sometimes the starting point is a musical piece, sometimes an authentic protagonist, a theatrical space, a painting, or a story hidden in the memory of a place.
I have created music videos for artists representing very different musical worlds—including Kazik Staszewski, Kult, Maciej Maleńczuk, Acid Drinkers, Kury, Armia, De Press, Luxtorpeda, Ray Wilson, TSA, Turbo, Pudelsi, Arka Noego, Małgorzata Ostrowska, Grammatik, and Wzgórze Ya-Pa 3.
Each of these productions was an attempt to find its own visual dramaturgy—sometimes dynamic and expressive, other times spare, poetic, or tinged with absurdity.
In documentary film, I am interested in people, places, and phenomena that often remain outside the mainstream narrative. I look for stories hidden in local memory, personal experiences, social rituals, and traces of the past.
I have directed, among others, the documentary “Spływacy”, the mockumentary “Zol, czyli śladami gorzowskiego UFO”, the musical film “Podróż na Wschód”, and the original project “FILMiOWO”, created under a scholarship from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
One of my most recent projects is the documentary “Złe śmierci”, dedicated to anti-vampire burials. I was responsible for directing, cinematography, animation, and post-production. The film was created under a KPO grant in collaboration with the Co u Licha collective and was presented during the ZATOR TACHA WLEKI event at the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts in Poznań.
