I am Antonio Natale Strangio, born in 1958 in Reggio Calabria, Italy, where I grew up and trained as an artist – first earning an arts diploma at the Liceo Artistico “Mattia Preti”, then studying at the Accademia di Belle Arti “U. Boccioni”.
In 1979 I founded my own cultural association, “Libera Accademia”, a workshop for figurative arts open to young people and adults.
Since then I have worked across painting, restoration, ceramics and goldsmithing, and today I live and create on a piece of land near Noto, in Sicily, surrounded by nature, animals and my own crops.
My passion is manual and figurative art in every form it can take: painting, restoration, ceramics and goldsmithing, and – since moving to Sicily – sculpture in stone, wood and clay.
I am naturally curious and hands‑on, always drawn to old crafts and traditional techniques, and I put the same care into shaping a piece of wood as I do into cooking, which has become another great passion using produce from my own land.
Nature, in all its forms, is a constant source of inspiration for my work.
Family comes first for me: I married my wife Cinzia in 1990, and our son was born the following year. Beyond that, what matters most is the freedom to work across many disciplines at once – teaching, restoration, ceramics, goldsmithing and sculpture – and never being confined to just one.
Curiosity, independence and craftsmanship guide every choice I make, and I always want to keep learning new skills and passing on what I know to others.
True freedom is found in the hands – in the patience of shaping stone, wood and clay, and in staying curious enough to keep learning new crafts throughout life.
